Jaw Surgery

Orthognathic surgery (corrective jaw surgery) is needed to reposition a misaligned jaw to function properly and allows the teeth to meet correctly. Jaw surgery may dramatically enhance your facial features as well. People who can benefit from this surgery are those who have difficulty with:

  • Chewing, biting or swallowing
  • Speech problems
  • Chronic jaw pain
  • Open bite
  • Protruding jaw
  • Breathing problems

Jaw growth is gradual and the jaw and teeth may not properly match at the end of the growth stage. This can create an under, over, or open bite which can cause a host of oral and facial problems. These symptoms can exist from birth, heredity or facial trauma. A thorough examination through facial x-rays will be completed during a consultation.

Jaw surgery is an option if the problem cannot be resolved through orthodontics alone. We will work with your orthodontist to determine whether surgery is the best option and create a custom treatment best suited for you.
